FEMALE PORTRAYAL AND FEMINIST DISCOURSE IN THE FIRST ADAPTATIONS FOR TELEVISION BY JOSEFINA MOLINA

This article examines the television adaptations directed by the Spanish director Josefina Molina during the sixties and seventies. Famous for her films Evening Performance (1981), Esquilache (1989) and Lola Goes to the Ports (1993), the aim is to analyse her dramas for Televisión Española Channel.

These works, which have been forgotten, allows us not only to analyse the beginnings of literary adaptations on television, but also to consider the History of Television in Spain. The ultimate goal of this study, therefore, is to propose that Josefina Molina is a television auteur. By narrative and visual experiments she created a feminist discourse that reflected the political and social transformations that in that moment began to arise in Spain.
