THE ACTOR AS A WITNESS FOR HIMSELF

Resumen
: Después del cuestionamiento del papel de la representación y la
historia a lo largo de la Modernidad, este artículo se pregunta por el lugar que
actualmente tiene la actuación en términos sociales y artísticos. ¿Qué significa
«actuar»? A partir de la figura del «testigo» como lugar fundamental en la his-
toriografía contemporánea, siguiendo el estudio de Agamben, se propone este
lugar como alegoría de la actuación, desarrollando algunos de sus aspectos, como
el sufrimiento, la verdad, la identidad, la memoria o el público como tribunal del
pasado, en relación a la creación escénica en España en los últimos diez años.

Abstract
: After questioning the role of representation and history throughout
modernity, this article questions the site now has «acting» in social and artistic.
What does it mean «act»? From the figure of «witness» as a central place in con-
temporary historiography, following Agamben´s studies, the analysis proposes it
as an allegory of the performance, developing some of its aspects, such as suffer-
ing, truth, identity, memory, or the audience as a court of the past, in relation to
performing arts in Spain in the last ten years.
